Introducing Window to my life

Window to my life

Window to my life

This project explores my experience of growing up in Norway with a background from Hong Kong, and the feeling of standing between two cultures. Through three three-dimensional illustrations, I visualize the journey through a cultural identity crisis:

Leung (bridge): The beginning – trying to carry both cultures at once, while feeling the pressure and a sense of not being enough.
Chiu (tide): The middle – the uncertainty and shifting sense of belonging, like being pulled back and forth by the tide.
Lok (joy): The end – finding peace, and experiencing acceptance for who I am.

The work serves as a symbolic window into my life, and a personal journey toward accepting my cultural identity.

Each layered illustration symbolizes a stage in my journey through a cultural identity crisis between Norway and Hong Kong. The physical layers create depth that reflects the emotional and cultural complexity of navigating multiple identities, representing how experiences, memories, and expectations overlap, fragment, and slowly move toward acceptance.

The fragrance oils translate my cultural identity into scent, representing Norway and Hong Kong through carefully selected natural ingredients. Each scent acts as an invisible layer of the work, evoking memory, place, and emotional belonging. Together, they allow the viewer to experience identity not only visually, but sensorially highlighting how culture can be felt as much as it is seen.
